Data exchange
Introduction
In any geotechnical project the collection and management of geotechnical data is ‘mission critical’ and can be a labour and time-consuming activity. The necessity to have a high quality of data and a transparency is not guaranteed by the diversity of computer systems used for the acquisition, analysis and final report.
Each and every user of the data have their own ideas on how the data should be formatted and each producer and receiver have their own software. The lack of a single electronic format leads to very intensive paper based systems which result in excessive and unnecessary rework.
The adoption of standardized exchange formats, independent of software vendors and recognized by the profession appears to be necessary. We made the choice to use only open formats.
Standard formats used by Geo-log 4
-
The BOR format ensures interoperability between loggers and data processing software.
-
The AGS format allows the electronic transfer of data in the geotechnical and geoenvironmental industries.
-
The LAS format is used for transferring well log data.
